CBI gives Sanjeev Mukhiya clean report in paper case NEET-UG 2024 | Today’s news
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said its probe into the alleged NEET-UG 2024 paper leak has found no evidence to link Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya to the theft or distribution of the examination question paper, according to a PTI report.
In a statement, the agency said the issue had been clarified earlier and claimed that its investigation had identified the entire conspiracy behind the theft of the NEET-UG 2024 paper along with every individual involved in its circulation and all the candidates who allegedly benefited from the leaked paper.
The CBI said the case arose after the Bihar police detected the theft of the NEET-UG document in 2024 and registered an FIR. At that stage, Mukhiya was named as an accused on prima facie suspicion as he had allegedly figured in other cases of leak of investigation papers.
The CBI filed several charge-sheets
The investigation was later transferred to the CBI, which said it had identified “every person” involved in the theft and distribution of the leaked paper, as well as every recipient. The agency has since filed multiple charge-sheets against 45 accused in a Patna court.
However, the CBI said that its investigation did not reveal any evidence to prove Mukhiya’s role in stealing or circulating the NEET-UG 2024 question paper.
“During the course of investigation, the CBI did not come across any evidence to prove the involvement of Sanjeev Kumar alias Sanjeev Mukhiya in the theft or distribution of the stolen NEET-UG 2024 paper,” the agency said as quoted by PTI.
The investigative agency said it had carried out a “detailed and thorough” investigation and was satisfied that the entire plot had been unraveled and all those involved had been identified.
Mukhiya in judicial custody in other cases
According to the CBI, Mukhiya remained on the run during the relevant period before he was arrested by the Bihar Police in connection with other cases. Since he was named in the original FIR, the agency took him into police custody for questioning during the investigation.
“As no evidence of his involvement in the NEET-UG 2024 case has emerged during investigation, CBI has not filed any charges against him in this case and hence he has availed bail in the NEET-UG case,” the statement said.
The agency clarified that Mukhiya continues to remain in judicial custody despite being granted bail in the CBI case as he is an accused in other cases being investigated by the Bihar Police.
