Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Poe SOOD is ready to obtain a one -year extension, as the high -level committee selects a new director that leads the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, could not reach the names of subjects.
The Committee, which has the chief judge (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and the leader of the opposition (LOP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi as members, met on Monday (May 5, 2025) in the office of the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Personnel and Training (DOPT), which is the node of the Ministry for the Premier Investigation Agency, will issue an official announcement of the extension.
Although there is no official word about what happened at the meeting, sources suggest that the discussion remained inconclusive because the members of the selection panel could not make the decision on the appointment of the new director.
According to the law, the existing entity may extend up to one year.
Sources said Hindu that Dopt had sent a long list of officers who may have been applicants for the highest CBI contribution.
The meeting came days before the two -year term of office of the reigning CBI director will end 25 May. Mr. Sood, in 1986-IPS officer Karnataka Cadre, was the CEO of the Police (DGP) before being selected for the main agency for the premiere. May 25, 2023 took it as a director of CBI.
For Mr. Gandhi, this is the first time he participates in a meeting to select the new CBI director from his appointment in Lok Sabha. The timing of the meeting is significant because it is the background of the terrorist attack of Pahalgam. This is also the first time that the Prime Minister met LOP and CJI.
