The Central Investigation Office (CBI) arrested five persons for charging SIM cards without permission. The event was adopted during searching at 42 locations in eight countries in the ongoing Chakra-V ‘operation against multinational organized syndicates of computer crime.
The search was carried out in 38 premises of agents of telecommunications operators, reportedly provided SIM cards for cyber criminals, in Assam, West Bengals, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. They were used for illegal activities, including fraud of “digital arrests”, pretense, fraudulent advertisements and investment/UPI fraud.
During the operation, there were documents and articles, including mobile phones, electronic devices, copies of KYC (you know your customer) and individual identification documents, including intermediaries involved in the distribution of unauthorized SIM cards, the agency said.
The arrest was carried out in four countries. “The event is part of the permanent obligation of the Indian government to strictly negotiate with computer crime and its perpetrators with special emphasis on dismantling the infrastructure for such crimes,” CBI said in a statement.
