The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested three persons, including a Deputy Inspector General of Police, in connection with cases involving criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence.
The arrested have been identified as DA Srinivas, DA Kalpaja, children of former Member of Parliament (MP) late DK Audikesavula Naidu and SY Mohan, Deputy Superintendent of Police currently posted with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Bengaluru.
The arrests were made on Monday in cases registered by the CBI as directed by the Karnataka High Court. The cases relate to the death of K. Raghunath and other related matters involving alleged forgery of valuable securities, government stamps and seals, fabrication of evidence and destruction of evidence.
These cases were earlier investigated by Bengaluru police. The CBI said the High Court’s orders handing over the investigation to the central agency were subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. The arrested accused will be produced before the relevant court and remanded till December 29 for further investigation.
The case dates back to 2019 following the mysterious death of Raghunath, a close confidant of Audikesavul who owned huge properties in Bengaluru and other places. Raghunath, owned many real estate properties in and around Bengaluru. After Audikesavulu’s death in 2013, Raghunath owned many properties belonging to Adikesavulu.
DA Srinivas, son of Audikeshavula, and others allegedly started pressuring Raghunath to transfer several immovable properties he owned, claiming that Srinivas’ father was the source of income from the properties in his (Raghunath’s) name.
He was found dead under mysterious circumstances in May 2019. Based on his son’s complaint, the police registered an unnatural death report. Meanwhile, in February 2020, Raghunath’s wife registered a complaint that her husband was murdered by Srinivas and others over property disputes. The case was later handed over to the CBI.
