Central Bureau of Communications (CBC) Deputy Director R. Ramesh Chandra on Friday (October 31, 2025) emphasized the importance of understanding India’s diverse cultures to strengthen unity and improve society’s services.
He was speaking at a program organized by CBC to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on National Unity Day at the Government College of Nursing, Guntur on Friday.
He said that after India achieved independence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel led a historic movement to integrate more than 565 princely states, laying the foundations of the democratic and united India we see today.
He pointed out that Sardar Patel’s leadership in dealing with complex issues in Junagarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad showcased his vision and determination. He said Patel’s pivotal role in creating the All India Services created a robust administrative system that continues to serve as the backbone of national governance.
He urged nursing students to study and understand different cultural practices in order to provide compassionate and inclusive healthcare across India’s diverse population.
Prof. Speaking on the occasion, Vemuri Vasundhara, Principal, Government College of Nursing shed light on the close association between Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru during the freedom struggle. She said Sardar Patel’s vision, courage and administrative acumen helped shape modern India. Professor Vasundhara appealed to the students to imbibe the values and ideals of Sardar Patel and contribute towards building a strong, united and progressive India.
