
The Election Commission of India on Wednesday said it had seized cash and other goods worth a total of ₹42.65 crore as of March 18 as part of its ongoing election expenditure monitoring and enforcement activities for the Assembly elections.
In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said the seized items include cash worth ₹2.37 crore, alcohol worth ₹0.18 crore, drugs and narcotics worth ₹2.88 crore, precious metals worth ₹16.42 crore and other items worth ₹20.8 lakh.
Expenditure monitoring teams and agencies have strengthened surveillance and coordination mechanisms to curb the distribution of illicit cash, incentives and other prohibited materials, the statement added.
