The Central Council of indirect taxes and customs (CBIC) said it received a report on factual investigation from the Ministry of Income (DOR), which was entrusted to carry out a fair, transparent and actual investigation on the accused Wintrack Inc in Chennai Customs.
“The report also indicates the possibility of cheating and private fraud of own agents and an importer of the importer,” CBIC said in a post on X.
The license of a customs agent appointed in the report was suspended on the basis of Regulation 16 licensing regulations for customs brokers, 2018 until the final outcome of the vigilance investigation. A police complaint was also filed against unauthorized intermediaries.
What was the Wintrack Inc complaint?
The imported company based in Chennai based in Chennai, 1 October, took X to announce the closure of its business, accusing the customs officials Chennai and the demand for bribes.
The founder of Wintrack Inc Ganeshan also published a video of X with details of the sequence of events since January 2025, which led to his decision to close his business. What did Cbic say?
CBIC said that on the basis of the findings of Prima Facia from the Ministry of Income, a thorough investigation into the vigilance is initiated, which is proposed to be completed within 4-6 weeks.
To ensure that the investigation is trustworthy, free and fair, CBIC has released officers identified in the report on their current duties with immediate effect and published them outside the jurisdiction.
Furthermore, the CBIC forms a working group under a member (customs) to take further corrective operational measures. These include a comprehensive review of all waiting cases in order to ensure consistent, transparent and legally correct application of the regulations, with special attention to MSME and small importers.
The working group ensures that there is no room for abuse of authority or retribution against the complainants, with careful monitoring of these cases for fair and rapid disposal under the law.
The working group will strive to implement complete anonymity in the evaluation of customs without faces by camouflage other details and issuing the relevant instructions to all officers and strictly promoting access to customs only by an authorized cha (the house agents).
“These measures underline the government’s obligation to ensure integrity in customs, strengthen systemic processes and facilitate smooth trade and trade,” Cbic said.
