The police have registered a case after a fake government order was circulated on online platforms, claiming that summer school vacations have been shortened, officials said on Sunday.
The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police registered a case on Saturday evening based on a complaint filed by V. Vasuki, secretary of the general education department.
According to the FIR, the fake order, purportedly issued in the name of the Department of General Education and bearing the Kerala government emblem, was circulated on social media, causing concern among students and teachers.
After the fake order was circulated, the department issued a clarification that no such decision had been taken.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and the Information Technology Act.
Police said they are trying to trace the social media account from which the message originated.
They added that several social media accounts are being monitored as part of the investigation.
