The Vellarad police on Monday registered a case against two CPI(M) activists, including the Vellarad local secretary, for allegedly assaulting a sub-inspector (SI) during a temple festival.
Three persons, including local CPI(M) secretary Vellarad Pradeep, were accused of assaulting SI Abhijith K. and civil police officer Jaseem during a temple procession around 9 pm on Sunday.
According to the police, a group including a CPI(M) leader was dancing on the road when the procession reached the junction. While this created a traffic block, the SI-led team ordered the group to surrender to ease congestion. This allegedly provoked the gang to attack the policemen.
