Carlos Alcaraz attacked the fourth round of the US Open with the commanding 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 victories over Italy Luciano Darderi, but the victory of direct sets came with the moment of concern because the Spaniard required a medical time limit.
Seed No. 2, Flushing Meadows champion in 2022, was first broken at this year’s tournament in the middle of the third set and convened a coach quickly. Alcaraz got the treatment on his knee and increased the concerns about the injury.
Any concerns proved to be short -term. The 22 -year -old shrugged this problem, then won every game and closed the competition in just 1 hour and 44 minutes.
“Just preventive measure”
Alcaraz, who spoke after the match, insisted that there was no reason to worry.
“I feel good. Just a preventive measure I asked for physiology when he broke me to serve me at the last point. I felt something that didn’t work well in my knee. After five six points it was gone,” he explained. “I asked for physiology just to take care of because it was one set, I had to be ready and feel good physically. I’m not afraid of it.”
In addition to short interruptions, the performance of alcaraz was unlimited. He struck 31 winners against only 12 unforced errors and dominated shorter exchanges, won 70 out of 105 points that lasted four or less.
Darderi, 32. The seed, then admitted that the challenge of facing alcaraz was stunning. “It is too bad that I came across Carlos in the third round, because it is now impossible to play against Jannik (Sinner) or Carlos. They are two whose level is above all others,” he said.
The victory improved the Grand Slam Alcaraza record to 80–13He made only the fourth player in history to achieve 80 main victories in the match before turning 23, after Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal.
Then the Spaniard faces French Arthur Rinderknech to the quarterfinals when he continues to pressure on the second crown of the US Open.
