Cardboard recycling unit gutted in Ranipet

A private cardboard recycling cum godown unit at VC Mottur village near Walajah town in Ranipet was gutted after a fire broke out in the facility on Thursday.

Police said it was around 4 a.m. when several night shift workers at the unit noticed thick smoke coming from the crash. Together with other workers, they tried to extinguish the fire, but the fire spread to the entire crash.

On being informed, firemen from SIPCOT, Ranipet, Katpadi and Cheyyar reached the spot and doused the fire.

Estimates are made of the goods destroyed during the crash.

A case has been registered. Police said an electrical short could have been the cause of the accident. A probe is underway.
