“Sometimes when you are forced to accept the call, you have to move on and look for opportunities. I think I played well. And more importantly, I want to play cricket, that’s it. I can’t go there and just sit and give water. It’s quite difficult to play for so many years,” Shankar Hindu said.
He also added that constant chopping and changing over the years have been making things extremely demanding for him. Recently was omitted from the XI President TNCA for the last two of the three group matches in the ongoing Buci babu tournament in Chennai, Which further contributed to his frustration.
“Last year I got to the first two games Ranji and then I came back. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, I was dropped again in the last two games. Then it was quite difficult. At some point I needed clarity. At some point I did not receive such clarity,” he added.
Lack of security from state selectors caused my decision: Shankar
Shankar, scoring 3,142 runs out of 81 shifts on average 44.25, admitted that he had never felt safe in the settings and had to constantly prove herself despite his experience and performance. During his stint he also led the team to three victories in the home title.
“I never got any safe feeling when it comes to selectors. So at one point I decided to call. And I was happy that at least our coach (M. Senthnathan) came and said what (selectioners) were thinking. So I felt it stayed.
All-Rounder, who will now play with Hanum Vihari in Tripura, also emphasized how he had been influenced by the lack of a firm batting position in the last few years, which eventually made him step forward.
“Even if you have been taking the last three years, I think that only in 2022 I fired on one tab position, I went to No. 6 every game and got three consecutive hundreds.
