Uttarkashi Cloudburst: Why is the Uttarkashi region so intuable?
Uttarkashi falls into a highly sensitive zone in the Himalayas, susceptible to lightning floods, cloudbursts and landslides, especially during the monsoon. Environmental experts have repeatedly warned that increasing tourism, random construction and changing climate formulas increased the risk of these disasters.
Dharali’s proximity to gangotri is a frequent stop for pilgrims and tourists. However, its location is also vulnerable to extreme weather events that become more frequent and intense.
