In Canada, a disturbing incident involving three Indian nationals has surfaced in the upscale Crescent Beach neighborhood. The individuals were charged in connection with the open shooting at the residence and were arrested by Surrey Police early Sunday morning. A preliminary investigation indicates that the apparent purpose of the multiple shots was extortion.

On Monday, authorities released the names and photos of the accused. One of them was a teenager, Taranveer Singh, aged 19. The other two, both aged 21, have been identified as Harjot Singh and Dayajeet Singh Billing. According to authorities, all three were “charged with one count of discharging a firearm at the scene in violation of Section 244.2, paragraph 1, letter a) of the Penal Code.”

Surrey Police Service said in a press release: “On February 1, 2026, at approximately 3:50 a.m., members of the Surrey Police Service (SPS) assigned to Project Assurance, working in conjunction with the Major Crimes Unit of the SPS, were on patrol in the Crescent Beach area of Surrey when there were reports of gunshots and a small fire outside a residence at 13 Crescent.”

Canada Border Services Agency will be involved

The Canada Border Services Agency, or CBSA, also got involved because they were all foreign nationals. The attackers were in custody until Thursday, February 5.

“SPS hopes that the public release of the images of Harjot Singh, Taranveer Singh and Dayajeet Singh Billing will prompt other witnesses, victims or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of one or more individuals on or before the morning of February 1,” the press release added.

Officers from Surrey Police Service, Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service and Delta Police Department responded to reports of shots fired and a small fire outside a home in a residential area. According to the report, officers apprehended the suspects near 28 Avenue and 140 Street who were hitchhiking to flee the scene.

Members of Surrey Fire Services rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire. The fire reportedly caused damage to the house, but the residence where the shooting took place was damaged.

Surrey, a city in British Columbia, has a population of almost 600,000. Since January 1, 2026, around 46 cases of extortion have been reported in the city, according to police reports. This includes 11 shootings and one arson attack, with more than half of the victims being repeat targets.
