Police in Ontario launched a search that arrested two suspects involved in the vandalization of the Sri Krish Brundavan temple in the Greater Toronto (GTA). Officials described the incident as a disaster. According to the Canadian news outlet of Halton Hills, members of the Georgetown community today called a targeted “skiring” attack.
In his statement issued on Thursday, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) said the incident was probing, which occurred about an hour after midnight on Sunday in Georgetown. Security shots indicated two suspects, both young white men in hooded sweatshirts who were based on a pub in the area before walking to the temple, where they were dismantled and destroyed the sign at the entrance.
Their photographs were issued so that people could identify and alert them to the authorities. The devoted temple on the main street of the southern Hindu temple reached the premises on Sunday morning to find that its sign tore the pieces.
Devoted and Hindu Canadian Foundation react
Kishor Shetty, a Hindu member of the community, said, “I was very surprised that someone would do it in a religious place in Georgetown. It was something I never expected to become people to pray, a spiritual place.
He added: “We live in a community where we do not expect this kind of things. I understand they are drunk but know what they are doing there. They knew it was a temple. They intended to do it. It is a crime of hate against Hinduism.”
“The growing influence of radical ideologies led to hateful acts focused on Hindu Canadians and their sacred spaces. Such actions threaten the harmony of our different communities,” said the Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF), adding that the incident “must be considered in context”, given increased extremism.
No first incident
Canada witnessed numerous cases where Hindu temples were attacked in recent years. According to media reports, in November 2024, protest Pro-Khalistan outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton rose into the invasion, while the congregants were attacked on the area. The regional police sergeant Peel was suspended for participation in the protest, while Inderjeet Gosal, the main organizer of the Khalistan referendum in Canada, was charged for his alleged event in the attack.
India condemned the incident strongly and Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on the Hindu temple in Canada. Equally scary are cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such violence will never weaken.
