Industrialist Nadir Godrej has slammed climate change deniers, including US President Donald Trump, saying calling it a hoax is a “good joke”. At the ongoing Climate Week in Mumbai, Godrej also suggested that OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman develop intelligent AI that does not consume as much energy as it does now.
Asked if he had a message for the US president, Godrej said, “Calling it a hoax is a good joke.
Trump’s climate change claim
Trump, who is in his second term as US president, has repeatedly questioned climate change, calling it a hoax and a giant hoax.
During his two terms in office, Trump has also withdrawn the US from major international climate agreements, including the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
“children’s drill”
During the 2024 US presidential campaign, one of Trump’s key promises was a “baby drill” to aggressively expand domestic oil and gas production.
Trump, a strong supporter of fracking, also took several steps to fulfill that promise immediately after taking office. That includes an executive order declaring a national energy emergency to bypass regulatory hurdles and expedite drilling permits and pipeline development, and open up millions of acres of federal land for lease, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and new coastal areas in the Atlantic and Pacific.
The Trump administration also rescinded the EPA’s landmark endangerment finding, which serves as the legal basis for regulating greenhouse gas emissions.
“Wind turbines are ugly”
Trump also criticized wind power, one of the cleanest sources of renewable energy, calling it the new green scam and fraud.
At the 2026 World Economic Forum last month, Trump continued his criticism of wind power, claiming that wind turbines lose money every time they spin and calling them inefficient.
He also called wind turbines “ugly”, “disgusting”, “garbage” and “bird-killing” machines that destroy the landscape.
