Chelllanam-Kochi Janakeeya Vedi, who launched a mass protest on October 28, 2019 and demanded comprehensive measures to protect the 17 km section of the coast between Chelllanam and Fort Kochi, will complete 2,000 days of its campaign on Good Friday. The inhabitants on the day called for a mass fast to repeat their demand for the protection of the coast, homes and lives.
Reds demanded on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) that the construction of the Tetrapod wall, which was supposed to protect the coast from Puthenthode to the northern end of the coast village and then to Fort Kochi, was completed at a war base. “Work must urgently begin as the rainy season approaches, and the inhabitants are afraid of serious coastal erosion and disruption of their everyday life,” they added.
Chelllanamo residents, with the hands of the rainy season, also demanded that sand bags be used to create a protective layer along the coast between Beach Road and Manassery. The leaders of the leaders appealed to the inhabitants of the coastal village to join the hungry strike from anywhere in the world and send pictures and reports of their participation in a mass event.
VT Sebastian, a general convent, said that the inhabitants of Chelllanamu under the auspices of Janakeeya also organized a protest meeting in front of the district collector and emphasized the need to build promised coastal waves in Manassery, Saudi and beach roads.
Mr. Sebastian said that the meeting of Vedi’s representatives with the district collector ended last week with a positive remark. He added that temporary coast protection measures will be completed before 15 May.
