Teachers’ organizations again protested against the directors of workers who have to bear the noon food burden.
They say it is not practical to provide students with food according to a revised unified menu for 6.78 GBP, which allow elementary schools to be reduced as material costs. If the revised offer is to be implemented, funds for schools should be improved. Otherwise, the lunch meal should be removed from the duties of the directors and handed over to any agency that can operate this system profitable with the current allocation.
The Association of Teachers Teachers Keral Pradesh (KPSTA) said in a statement that the government allowed 52 GBP per liter of milk, although it cost 54 to 58 GBP. Similarly, 1 kg of coconut oil costs 460 GBP. Vegetables were also expensive. How the school could provide Payasam, Ragi Kozhukatta and Elayada at the assigned material costs, she asked.
The expert committee, which found that the noon menu lacked nutrients and designed a revised menu, should also recommend an increase in assignment for this system. Collection of funds as some schools performing this system could not be carried out in all institutions, KPsta argued.
Price inflation
The Association of Heads of Main Schools Keral said the government said that although the ministry wanted schools to implement a new midday dining menu from 1 August, it should revise material costs according to price inflation prepared by economic and statistical wings.
It was also practical to provide Kozhukukuku, Elayad and Payasam together with Rice as part of noon food, the Association said.
