The Manachira-Velimadukunnun Road Action Committee demanded that the state government names the soon developed road Manachira-vellimadukunnu after MGS Narayanan, a historian who recently died as a recognition for his obligation to cause the road.
At the meeting on Monday (April 28, 2025), the committee noted that the 15 -year fight of the Action Committee was crucial in the development of a road project. “The project, declared in 2008, could have been abandoned in 2012. The Action Committee, led by MGS, exerted pressure, resulting in completion of land acquisition during the main ministers of Oommen Chanda and Pinaayi Vijayan.
The Committee said that the completion of the road was the last wishes of MGS, which he mentioned in his last letter for the Minister of Road Transport Union and Motorway Nitin Gadkari. The 8.4 kilometer section of the Manachira-Velimadukunnnu section NH 766 is the main road that passes through the city. Development was delayed due to the proposed development project NH 766, which is still waiting for the approval of the central government. The Committee therefore called on the MLA and the Minister of Public Works to speed up the project as a tribute to MGS.
