On Saturday, speakers at the National Seminar expressed serious concern about “growing cases of violence against Christians”, although allegedly abused legal cases to participate in the cases of this community.
“Religious freedom in India: reality or dream?” The seminar linked intellectuals, legal experts and creators of politicians who emphasized justice, equality and real religious freedom.
K. Babu Rao, a former IPS officer and National President Crii, remembered the case of pastor Adivasi, Subhash Bhagel, whose son could not bury him in the cemetery of the village. His son had to move the top court in an effort to gain justice. “He lives as a Christian crime? Use of religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution is our right,” he said.
The speakers also emphasized the “lack of religious freedom facing Christians and Muslims Dalits” due to the 1950 presidential order, and urged it to abolish. They expressed concern about abuse of laws against conversion.
“We are Indians and we will follow the constitution,” there was a collective report. Recent incidents from Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh were emphasized. In one incident, more than 500 people were reserved during the prayer service, even if they were not “transferred”. In another, cutting a birthday cake was described as a Christian ritual.
The key speeches were presented by the advocates of Temina Arara and Franklin Thomas Caesar, both of whom joined the seminar from Delhi. They shared their views on how legal systems affect religious freedom in India. The main guest was the former main secretary Andhra Pradesh Minnie Mathew.
Mr. Rao has published a book entitled “SWECHHA NUNCHI CERASAL Loki” (from freedom to prison) written by journalist Suresh Puluguju.
