California Governor Gavin Newsom filed an emergency request at the Federal Court trying to block Trump’s administration in the deployment of the National Guard and American Marines to help with immigration raids in Los Angeles.
“Sending trained war warriors to the streets is unprecedented and threatens the core of our democracy itself,” he said.
“Donald Trump behaves like a bully, not the president. We ask the court to immediately block these unlawful steps.”
The submission submitted to the US District Court in Northern California requires a court order by 13:00 local time (2000 GMT) and appoints President Trump and Defense Minister Pete Hegseth for the defendants and accuses them of violating the US Constitution.
Legal measures follow the order of President Donald Trump to send approximately 4,000 National Guard soldiers and 700 marines to the city and after four days of extended protests in response to aggressive recovery of his administration.
The role support has expanded behind the original mission
According to the submission, the National Guard was originally deployed to protect federal buildings. However, the Newsom Administration claims that the mission has probably changed. The emergency request challenges the legality of this shift, which allegedly includes that the members of the Rangers are now ordered to provide active assistance in immigration operations.
This assistance, according to Paul Ecka, a representative of the General Adviser to the California Military Department, includes the provision of streets and the establishment of districts around the places where federal raids are carried out.
Governor is against the federal overlap
The submission of the Newsom claims that such the use of state military personnel violates state sovereignty and exceeds the legal limits of the deployment of the guard without the consent of the state.
Unclear whether the mission shift is already in progress
It remains uncertain whether the new orders have already come into force or whether members of the Rangers are currently helping to promote immigration.
The Court adds fuel to an already tense distance between the democratically led state and Trump’s administration over immigration policy and the use of federal military resources within the state borders.
Marines arrive as tension increases
Hundreds of us Marines arrived in the Los Angeles region on Tuesday, part of the controversial commitment ordered by President Donald Trump, who also activated approximately 4,000 National Guard soldiers. This step follows four days of protests caused by a new wave of immigration raids initiated by administration.
Military officials said that marines who do not have arrests will protect federal property and staff.
Newsom calls the deployment of illegal
The Newsom strongly opposed the placement and called him politically motivated and legally controversial. On Monday, a federal court claimed that Trump’s activation of the guard without state consent violated the constitutional boundaries.
“It is not public security,” he published Newsom on the X. “It is a stroking of the dangerous President’s ego.”
The Newsom also criticized the cost of deployment – estimated at $ 134 million – and said, “Think about how much veteran nutritional and housing (Trump administration) can instead of disgusting these units as infantry.”
Mayor of Bass: “The city of immigrants”
The mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass stressed that most protests were peaceful and localized, with several unique violence of several agitators. She said at a press conference on Tuesday:
“There are several blocks in the city center. It’s not the whole center and it’s not the whole city. Unfortunately, visuals see that our whole city is on fire – and it’s not.”
She confirmed that she would call Trump directly: “I want to tell him to stop the raids. I want to tell him it’s a city of immigrants.”
Bass also questioned the purpose of deploying soldiers with active services: “What will the marines do when they get here? That’s a good question. I have no idea.”

Trump threatens the uprising law
President Trump prevented the deployment in the notes from the oval office and described the protests as “violent occupation”. He warned that Los Angeles would “burn right now” without a military presence and had the opportunity to trigger an uprising law-the old law, which allows direct military involvement in the enforcement of law.
“If there is an uprising, I would definitely evoke it. We’ll see,” Trump said.
In the escalating War of Trump, he also called on Newsom. House Speaker Mike Johnson added fuel to the fire and said that the California governor “should be hoarse and feathered”.
The city is cleaned after clashes
When military forces gathered, the city began to clean after Monday’s night confrontations. In Little Tokyo, one of the most difficult areas, the owners of businesses swept the debris and scrubbed graffiti.
