Cabinet approves Ahmedabad Metro Extension, ₹4,703 crore Amaravati projects | Today’s news

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved infrastructure projects worth approx 4,703 crore, Phase 2 (A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Project and new government offices and residential complexes in Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project comprises a 6.032 km corridor that will expand the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar network.

“This phase aims to seamlessly integrate key zones, including residential and commercial hubs, with the existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor. Further, sports facilities for the World Police Games 2029 and Commonwealth Games 2030 are likely to be built in the vicinity,” an official statement said.

Once operational, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will have an active metro network of 77.63 km, the government said.

The project will cost CZK 2,169.04 million including interest during construction. The government said the project is expected to create employment for about 2,000 people during peak construction activity, while about 500 people are likely to be employed in the operation and maintenance of the system.

“By adding Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project and increasing the overall Metro Rail network in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities, carbon emissions can be significantly reduced compared to traditional fossil fuel transport,” the statement said.

The cabinet also approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool office and residential accommodation at Amaravati.

The office complex will be built on 5.53 acres and designed to accommodate about 8,000 officials and employees. The project will have a built-up area of ​​23.25 lakh sq.ft. The residential project will be spread over 17 acres and will include 11 residential towers with 1,504 residential units. The project will have a built-up area of ​​31.30 lakh sq ft, according to a separate statement.
