Elections to the Davangere South and Bagalkot Assembly constituencies, prompted by the resignation of former ministers Shamanur Shivashankarappa and HY Meti, will be held on April 9, 2026, the Election Commission of India announced on Sunday (March 15, 2026). Both seats were held by the ruling Congress.
Counting of votes would take place on May 4. While the last date for submission of nominations is March 23, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 26.
Both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP are facing stiff competition among their potential candidates with just over a week left for both the parties to decide on their nominees. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bagalkot on Saturday (March 14, 2026) that the party is ready to face the bye-polls and exudes confidence that it will win.
