The income tax department said it revealed and thwarted a large fraud of tax refund, which includes the filing of invented tax returns in Tamil Nadu.
Investigations and search operations were carried out in 19 districts in Tamil Nadu, including Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Salem, Madurai, Sivaganga, Thesi, Virudhunagar and Tirunelvel. These operations were performed under the leadership of Michael Jerald, another income tax director (investigation), Madurai, with the support of officers from Tiruchi, Madurai and Tirunelvel.
The Ministry initiated an investigation according to various provisions of the Income Tax Act on fraudulent demands on tax deductions, which were falsely declared for the purpose of obtaining a disproportionate tax refund. Preliminary findings revealed that several tax experts and intermediaries across Tamil were facilitated by thousands of taxpayers to file false money by submitting invented data to their tax returns. As a result, extensive search and questions were carried out across the southern Tamil Nadu.
The fraudulent demands included mainly the claims of false deductions in various sections such as 80GGC (gifts to political parties), section 80D (health insurance premium), section 80 C (tuition) and Section 10 (13 A) House rental allowance along with other deduction provisions, Monday on Monday.
Through these misleading methods, taxpayers were helped in a false reinforcement of their tax deductions, allowing them to demand illegitimate compensation. It is estimated that the fraudulent amount of refund is approximately 500 GBP.
The investigation revealed that the reserved E -mail ID was created specifically by these agents for a fraudulent tax return on behalf of taxpayers. Thousands of revenues have been filed through these E -mail IDs, resulting in returning rupees unauthorized. In the course of search operations, incriminating evidence was obtained and confiscated.
The income tax department continues to conduct an investigation in all its offices. Taxpayers were warned to remain vigilant and refrain from engaging in such unethical and illegal practices that not only cause loss of income to the government, but expose them to criminal consequences.
All taxpayers who may have filed incorrect or fraudulent tax returns over the current or previous financial years was recommended that they voluntarily register and submit revised or updated revenues. This would not only help build confidence between taxpayers and the ministry, but also helped them avoid fines, legal management and prosecution.
