Former Captain India Anil Kumble called Jasprit Bumrah to push and play both remaining tests in Anderson – Dendulkar trophy, and added that a quick pitch can manage his workload by skipping the upcoming domestic series at the end of this year. Kumble stressed that India would need their pace in Manchester and London (oval), especially after a heartfelt defeat on Sunday Lord’s.
When Bumrah was appointed in the England Group Tour, the main selector Ajit Agarkar said it was expected to be held in three or four tests. Upon arrival in England, Bumrah confirmed that he focused on only three matches because he has already refused the captain’s offer to focus on the management of workload.
Even after the loss of India in the Opening Series in Leeds, the head coach Gautam Gambhir repeated that there would be no change In plans and that Bumrah would only appear in three tests.
Bumrah was rested for the second test in Birmingham, which India won comprehensively by 338 runs. He returned to the Lord’s test and raised five goals in the first shifts.
“I would definitely, if I were part of this group, pushed Bumrah to play another game,” Kumble Jiohotstar said after the match.
“This is essential. If we don’t play and then we lose the test, that’s all – the series is done and dusted. I think Bumrah should play both remaining tests.
The fourth test begins in Manchester 23 July, eight days after the Lord’s test. However, the fifth and last test in the oval starts only three days after the fourth, 31 July.
It remains to find out whether the Bumrah and Indian team leadership will re -evaluate their workload strategy. If India equals the series in Manchester, do they risk their bowler ace for the referee in London?
Bumrah previously pushed to play all five matches from Trophy 2024–25 Border – Gavascar. During the first shift of the final test, he dismantled the Australian set of tabs throughout the series, but a recurring back injury. His absence for most Sydney test proved to be expensive because India missed the golden opportunity to balance the series.
Bumrah then missed the champion trophy and returned to the event only during the IPL 2025 season.
After the trophy of Anderson-tendulkar, India is going to play a test series Against the guest team of West India at home in October before faces South Africa in November.
