A Delhi court on Saturday extended the NIA custody of deported gangster Anmol Bishnoi by seven days. Special Judge Prashant Sharma ordered the extension till December 5 during the hearing at the NIA headquarters amid tight security.
Anmol, who is wanted in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the April 2024 attack on actor Salman Khan’s residence and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewal, among other crimes, was deported from the US on November 18 after he was detained there last year.
Citing threats on social media from a “Pakistani gangster”, advocate Rajani, representing Anmol Bishnoi, filed an application seeking additional safeguards to protect his life and liberty, according to an Indian Express report.
She also asked the court to direct the NIA to provide adequate armed police protection and ensure that Bishnoi is transported in a bulletproof vehicle and wears a bulletproof vest.
“It is submitted that such threats cannot be taken lightly as similar cases of threats on social media have recently culminated in actual acts of violence,” advocate Rajani said in her application, as reported by the Indian Express.
“That a serious incident was reported in Jalandhar, Punjab in March 2025 where a grenade was hurled at the residence of a social media influencer following similar threats issued via online videos by the aforementioned foreign gangster. This incident shows a clear pattern of escalation from threats to real-world violence,” the application said.
The Indian Express reported that advocate Rajani in her application referred to an alleged Instagram post in which the Pakistani gangster allegedly “threatened” and “openly challenged” Lawrence Bishnoi to protect his brother and maternal uncle.
“Given these developments, the continuous nature of the threats, and the proven pattern of actual violence, the complainant/defendant has a genuine and reasonable fear of an imminent threat to his life and liberty, as well as the safety of his counsel,” the request reads.
On the run since 2022, US-based Anmol Bishnoi is the 19th accused to be arrested for his involvement in the terror syndicate led by his jailed brother Lawrence Bishnoi, the NIA says.
Anmol was charged by the NIA in March 2023 after investigation into the case found that he had actively assisted designated individual terrorists Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in committing various terrorist acts in the country during the period 2020–2023. It is alleged that Anmol worked closely with various associates of the Bishnoi gang and continued to run terrorist syndicates and carry out acts of terrorism from the US for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang using his agents on the ground.
Investigation revealed that Anmol Bishnoi provided shelter and logistical support to the gang’s shooters and ground operatives. He was also involved in extortion in India from foreign soil with the help of other gangsters.
It has been reported that Anmol’s name has come up in the investigation of the Siddu Moosewal murder case, the MLA Siddiqui murder case in Mumbai and the shooting at Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence.
