The state budget will be presented on March 20 and the session is expected to continue till March 30 with a total of 10 working days, according to the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the legislature which met on Monday.
During the BAC meeting, opposition party leaders objected to what they called an “abbreviated and rushed” session. The representatives of the Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded that the session be extended by at least 20 days to discuss public issues in detail.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has questioned the absence of a question hour in the current plan, alleging that the government is trying to curtail debate. BRS leader T. Harish Rao submitted a representation that sought discussion on 19 key public issues. He warned that if the government did not meet their demands, they would consider boycotting the next BAC meeting.
BJPLP leader A. Maheshwar Reddy insisted on the session for at least 30 days and accused the government of using the session to approve the budget and ignore public affairs. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Gaddam Prasad and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu among others.
