Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30 called for reforms in the mission regime across various sectors to sustain long-term growth to achieve the Viksit Bharat vision by 2047, news agency PTI reported.
Working with a panel of leading economists and experts from NITI Aayog ahead of the Union Budget 2026, PM Modi also advocated building world-class capabilities and achieving global integration. The theme of the interaction was ‘Aatmanirbharta and Structural Transformation: An Agenda for Viksit Bharat’.
During the interaction, PM Modi emphasized that India’s politics and budgeting must remain anchored with the vision of 2047, the news agency said.
The Prime Minister spoke of the need to ensure the nation remains a vital hub for the global workforce and international markets.
Viksit Bharat as a national aspiration
Talking about Viksit Bharat as a national aspiration, he noted that the vision of a developed India by 2047 has transcended government policy and become a true mass aspiration.
During the interaction, the economists shared strategic insights on increasing productivity and competitiveness across manufacturing and service sectors.
The participants also noted that the unprecedented flurry of cross-sectoral reforms in 2025 and their further consolidation in the coming year will ensure that India continues to chart its path as one of the fastest growing global economies by strengthening its fundamentals and opening up new opportunities, PTI reported.
The discussion focused on accelerating structural transformation through increased household savings, robust infrastructure development and adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
The group explored the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an enabler of cross-industry productivity and also discussed the continued expansion of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Principal Secretaries to Prime Minister PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman Suman Bery, Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran, Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam and other Aayog members were present in the meeting.
Besides, several renowned economists and experts participated in the discussion including former CEA Shankar Acharya, Ashok K Bhattacharya, NR Bhanumurthy, former RBI MPC Ashima Goyal, Dharmakirti Joshi, Umakant Dash, Pinaki Chakraborty, Indranil Sen Gupta, Rayria, Monika Dakralan and Samiran Hakralan Siddhartha Sanyal.
Viksit Bharat has transcended government policy to become a true mass aspiration.
Earlier this month, Union Government sought suggestions for the upcoming 2026 budget from the general public to help create new rules and plans for the country. According to a December 20 post on X by MyGovIndia, the government encouraged people to participate in the task.
“Building a budget with a public view. Share your proposals for the Union Budget 2026-2027 and contribute to policies that support inclusive growth and national development,” read the post, which invites everyone to visit the MyGov website to submit their views on what next year’s new budget should focus on.
