BSP president Mayawati on Thursday (Jan 15, 2026) said her party will contest all elections across the country, including the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, on its own and form a full majority government in the state.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on her 70th birthday, Ms Mayawati said the party had decided it was “better” to fight all small and big elections independently and not enter into any alliance with any party.
“There should be no confusion about this. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will fight alone in the next assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh,” she said.
However, she added that in the future, if the party is fully convinced that the alliance partner can effectively transfer its votes – especially of the upper castes – to the BSP, a positive decision could be taken to contest the alliance elections, although she said such a situation would take years.
Mayawati claimed that the people of Uttar Pradesh were once again bent on returning the BSP to power in 2027, recalling the party’s four previous terms. She said that the party workers were fully engaged to ensure the formation of BSP government with full majority in the next Assembly elections.
Attacking the BJP, Congress and other “caste parties”, she said the BSP would give them a befitting reply and form the party’s fifth government in Uttar Pradesh.
The BSP chief also raised concerns over Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and alleged manipulation and dishonesty in the past elections, but asserted that her party would go ahead with elections across the country with full force.
She said opposition to EVMs is growing nationally.
Ms. Mayawati accused previous governments of neglecting BSP founder Kanshi Ram and alleged that national mourning was not declared after his death.
She also alleged injustice towards Muslims and other communities, claiming that there were no communal riots during the BSP rule and that all sections, including the Yadavs, were taken care of.
Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav greeted Mayawati on her birthday. In a post on X, Adityanath wished her good health and long life, while Yadav praised her lifelong struggle for the rights and dignity of the downtrodden and marginalized.
Ms Mayawati turned 70 on Thursday, with the BSP observing the day in Uttar Pradesh as ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’.
