Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has commissioned 6,132 4G sites across Andhra Pradesh to provide high-speed internet and enhanced mobile services to subscribers, announced M. Sheshachalam, Senior General Manager (AP Telecom Circle).
Of these, about 1,325 sites have been commissioned under the DBN-funded 4G Saturation Project, covering 2,641 remote uncovered villages, in a bid to bridge the rural-urban digital divide, he told the media here on Thursday. “Besides, 903 sites will be commissioned soon, covering another 1,300 villages,” he added.
Mr. Sheshachalam said the number of 4G customers in the state increased from 5 to 17 million, while mobile data consumption increased from 184 TB to 410 TB per day. Similarly, 4G voice call volume increased fourfold, from 1.5 million erlangs to 6 million erlangs per day.
Meanwhile, BSNL has commissioned 112 DBN-funded 4G sites in undivided Chittoor district (Tirupati Telecom district), while the project is underway at 57 sites.
Senior General Manager (Chittoor District) G. Ramesh, Deputy General Manager S. Venkoba Rao (Admin & Sales), RV Naidu (Mobile) and V. Damodaram (Finance) were also present.
