The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to appoint Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, former Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) as the Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief.
Mr Kapur was sent on leave and then acquitted of state DGP charges last year amid the controversy surrounding the suicide of Indian Police (IPS) officer YS Puram Kumar.
Mr. Kapur, a 1990-batch Haryana cadre IPS officer, will remain in the post till October 31, his date of retirement, or until further orders.
The ACC has also approved the appointment of 1993 batch West Bengal cadre IPS officer, Praveen Kumar, currently working as DG, ITBP, as the Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) from the date of taking charge till 30. Mr. Kumar currently holds dual charge of BSF and ITBP.
In another order, the ACC approved the appointment of 1994-batch IPS officer Rakesh Aggarwal as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Currently deputed as Special DG, NIA, Mr. Aggarwal will remain in office till July 31, 2028 or until further orders.
