Manchester United moved closer to sealing qualification for next season’s Champions League with a 2-1 win against Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday 27 April. However, it is captain Bruno Fernandes who took to social media to show off his leadership qualities ahead of the game.
The Portuguese played a key role in their teams 2-1 win over ‘The Bees’ after turning provider to Benjamin Cesko for United’s second of the game in the first half.
“This is our time,” Fernandes said in the team huddle before the game began. “We’re not kidding! We’re going again, again, again. That’s our mentality from now on! We want to win every game, we do whatever it takes to win!”

Bruno, in fact, was even seen pushing Cesko after the second goal to complete the signing celebration with Manchester United fans.
The assist further moved his cause to the all-time record for assists in a season. Fernandes has provided Manchester United with 19 Premier League assists this season, one shy of the competition record shared by Thierry Henry (20 in 2002-03) and Kevin De Bruyne (20 in 2019-20).
Carrick knows the value of his midfielder and interim United boss.
“Bruno and Casemiro have a good relationship. We scored almost every game and Bruno is a big part of that. He might have had one more assist and scored himself,” added Carrick.
IS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFICATION DONE?
When Carrick took over until the end of the season, United were languishing in sixth place, with a Champions League place far from certain. But the former United midfielder steadied the ship impressively after the tumultuous reign of Ruben Amorim.
The win over Brentford puts Michael Carrick’s men in third place, eleven points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, with just two more points needed to seal England’s third qualifying spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League. They next host rivals Liverpool on May 3, followed by a trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on May 9.
