Bruno Fernandes became the Premier League player of the season
Bruno Fernandes (ANI photo) Bruno Fernandes capped a remarkable campaign by being named Premier League Player of the Season after leading Manchester United back into the UEFA Champions League. The Portuguese midfielder has been at the heart of United’s revival this season, combining leadership with elite creativity in the final third. Fernandes notched his 20th assist of the league campaign last weekend, equaling two Premier League legends for the most assists in a single season. He now shares the record with Thierry Henry, who achieved it for Arsenal in 2002-03, and former Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who equaled it in 2019-20. Fernandes still has the chance to make history when United take on Brighton & Hove Albion in their final league game on Sunday. The accolade adds to an already memorable month for the Portugal international, who was also named England’s Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association earlier this May. With goals, assists and influential performances throughout the campaign, Fernandes played a central role in Manchester United’s successful bid to return to Europe’s top flight.
