HYDERABAD
The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to step up its fight against the alleged scam exposed by the Congress government through its Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy (HILTP) by allowing conversion of land use on a dumping fee to make easy money through kickbacks.
As part of the fight, the party leadership has decided to send eight investigation teams comprising senior party leaders to industrial clusters in Hyderabad where the government is planning to implement HILTP to allow conversion of land use from industrial to commercial, residential and other multi-purpose needs/uses.
Party Working President KT Rama Rao held a teleconference with key officials, including former ministers, former and current legislators, on fact-finding visits to be held on Wednesday and Thursday (December 4 and 5). He alleged that the government conspired in favor of close associates of the bigwigs in the ruling party and government to monetize the industrial lands by transferring their use at a very low fee/cost compared to the market prices.
Agreements have already been signed between the industrial units allotted the land and associates of the government bigwigs to commercialize the 9,300 acres of land, now worth about ₹ 5 lakh crore.
Meanwhile, Legislative Council Deputy Speaker and party chief Banda Prakash claimed that the government plans to complete the HILTP implementation process to hand over land to developers for non-industrial use in just 45 days. He suggested the government to hold public hearings and conduct a social impact assessment of the land as was done before allotment of land to industrial enterprises.
He pointed out that the scope of the HILTP was also unclear as Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu had said that it would not apply to leased land. Some industries were given land on lease in addition to outright sales. He suggested sale/conversion of unused industrial land through bidding process which is being done in several states.
