The intellectual forum Backward Classes has questioned the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for giving a party ticket to B. Madhav Reddy for the upcoming municipal elections, a person who went to the Supreme Court against the 42% reservation for BCs in local bodies.
Forum president Chiranjeevulu questioned before the media at the secretariat on Friday how the BRS can justify its stand after giving a ticket to the person who had moved the Supreme Court against the strengthening of reservations.
They alleged that the BRS had repeatedly displayed an anti-BC attitude during its tenure. Citing the reduction of BC reservations in local bodies from 34% to 23% and the failure to fully release budgetary funds for BC social security, he accused the party of betraying BC interests. They also criticized the BRS for not implementing the findings of the caste census despite being part of the process.
The BC representatives also targeted all major political parties, accusing them of being “upper caste-dominated parties” and asked how they could win BC votes. They alleged that the Congress government has failed to utilize even 10% of the funds earmarked for BC in the last two years despite announcing an expenditure plan of ₹1 lakh crore over five years.
Targeting the BJP-led Centre, the organizations have demanded that a bill granting 42% reservation to BC be immediately tabled in Parliament and included in the Ninth Schedule to provide constitutional protection.
