HYDERABAD
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) labor president KT Rama Rao has asked the government to remove Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy over the involvement of his family company Raghava Constructions in illegal mining, otherwise the BRS will complain to the Governor and take the issue to the people.
In a statement issued after the Speaker on Sunday suspended 24 BRS legislators from the rest of the Assembly session, he said when the government had shown utmost urgency in taking action against some companies involved in illegal mining in the past, why was it hesitant to take action against Raghava Constructions. Was it because he belonged to a minister’s family, he asked.
Mr. Rama Rao sought to know how the minister’s son, wife and brother would become his distant relatives as claimed by the CM and mentioned that the minister himself was the chairman of the company till 2022.
He mocked Mining Minister G Vivek when he called the matter only ₹4 crore and pointed out that the company had been involved in mining irregularities for the last two and a half years. Regarding the government’s claim of improved mining revenue, the BRS leader said that against the expected ₹1,800 crore, only half of it has been realised.
