BRS urges ECI to implement Aadhaar verification in SIR to ensure accurate voter rolls

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to use AI-enabled verification, facial recognition, GIS-based verification and deduplication, along with field verification wherever legally permissible, to accurately identify duplicate registrations while protecting genuine voters.

In a statement submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner, the party said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 presents a historic opportunity to prepare a clean, accurate and legally sustainable electoral roll in accordance with the principle of ‘one citizen – one vote’.

Signed by MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former MP B Vinod Kumar and party legal expert Soma Bharat Kumar, the representation said the exercise should be aimed at eliminating duplicate entries rather than disenfranchising genuine voters. He urged the Election Commission to ensure that no name is deleted without proper verification and due process of law.

According to the BRS party, its preliminary analysis showed that suspected duplicate and multiple registrations existed in all 119 State Assembly constituencies, requiring comprehensive verification by the Election Commission.

The party classified the suspected cases into four categories – multiple registrations in the same assembly constituency, within the same parliamentary constituency, in different assembly constituencies in Telangana and registrations going on simultaneously in Telangana and neighboring states.

The representation claimed that its analysis found an average of about 16,243 suspected duplicate entries in each assembly constituency, with the number ranging from 2,464 to 53,695 in different constituencies. However, he clarified that these are only suspected cases requiring verification through a legal process before any deletion can be made.

The party also highlighted the issue of voters continuing to hold voter registrations in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. He asked the Commission to identify such cases.
