Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Monday urged the Election Commission to extend the July 24 deadline for the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process in the state, citing low voter turnout and lack of awareness.

Addressing a review meeting of the party’s special committee at Telangana Bhavan, Mr. Rama Rao said that so far only 7% of the forms distributed by booth level officers (BLOs) have been submitted, making it difficult to complete the exercise within the stipulated time frame.

He slammed the Election Commission for “focusing on duplicate votes” within districts, while ignoring cases where individuals are registered as voters in different states. Reiterating the principle of ‘one person, one vote, one seat’, he said the party has already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Telangana and will soon send a delegation to New Delhi to meet the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Mr. Rama Rao said BRS appointed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) are actively monitoring the process and ensuring registration of all eligible voters. He added that information sessions were held in more than 93 assembly constituencies and would cover the remaining segments soon.
