The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would expose the betrayal of the Backward Classes by the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi as Mr. Gandhi toured the country claiming that the party government in Telangana had given 42% reservation to BC.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao said in a party meeting held here on Monday that his party will keep the betrayal of Congress before the people of the country. If Mr. Gandhi was sincere, he as the Leader of the Opposition must ensure that the matter comes up for discussion in Parliament.
He alleged that Congress made a bouquet of promises in the name of BC declaration in Telangana but failed to fulfill any of them to betray the BC communities. The opposition party will pressure the government to allocate ₹20,000 crore for the sub-plan in the upcoming budget.
Party presidents Banda Prakash, V. Ravichandra, S. Madhusudhana Chary, V. Srinivas Goud and others said that the Congress government had recently reduced the promised 42% quota for BC by issuing GO 46. The entire BC reservation expansion issue has become a mockery of Congress rule, they said, adding that the decision to start the BC caste census was taken by the BRS government itself and a cabinet sub-committee was also formed.
The exercise adopted by the Congress government reduced the numbers of BCs showing it to 46% against the actual 51%. Finally, the government decided to go for the gram panchayat polls with the old (existing) reservation system and give 42% reservation to BC by the party in elections fought on a non-party basis. They sought to know the connection between the cabinet decision and the provision of 42% reservation by the BC ruling party.
Later, Mr. Rama Rao met the BRS corporators at GHMC about the strategy to be adopted in the board meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
