Alleging that the ruling Congress is indulging in malpractices to win the Jubilee Hills bypoll, a BRS delegation led by MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy and filed a formal complaint against the Congress. BRS leaders have accused the Congress of distributing fake voter cards, cash and gifts to voters to influence the polls.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with the CEO on Monday, Mr Harish Rao said they have also submitted video and photographic evidence to the Election Commission of India (ECI) alleging that the Congress is indulging in large-scale bribery of voters, including distribution of liquor, money, sarees and mixer grinders. They asked the European Commission to crack down on officials abusing their power and to deploy central forces in sensitive polling stations.
“We have even filed several complaints against C-Vigil app and also shared evidence with officials through WhatsApp. Yet no visible action has been taken,” he said.
Mr. Harish Rao said that the CEO assured them that action would be taken against officials found guilty of misconduct. “We have urged the EC authorities to deploy central units in sensitive polling stations, appoint police personnel and ASHA, Anganwadi workers to ensure strict identity verification of voters to prevent impersonation,” he added.
The BRS delegation alleged that the Congress was using its power and resources to influence the Jubilee Hills by-election, pointing to a polling station set up next to the Congress office as evidence.
