BRS MLAs pulled their shirts to insult women policemen, Congress women MLAs

A delegation of Congress women MLAs and other women members filed a complaint with the Telangana State Commission for Women demanding an inquiry and appropriate legal action against several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators for their alleged misbehavior with policewomen during a confrontation in the Legislative Assembly on 7

A complaint submitted to the Women’s Commission alleged that the incident at Gate No. 3 involved “disgraceful behaviour”, misogynistic remarks and physical intimidation of policewomen deployed on security duty.

According to the complaint, BRS leaders like former minister T. Harish Rao, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy and MLAs Bandari Lakshma Reddy, KP Vivekanand and D. Sudheer Reddy confronted the police personnel.

Women MLAs Uttam Padmavathi and Yashaswini Reddy alleged that several male legislators removed their shirts in public and stood in their inner vests while moving in close proximity to female police personnel.

They also alleged that some BRS leaders used derogatory and sexist language against women personnel. The complaint alleged that KTR referred to the mythological figure Shikhandi while questioning the deployment of women police personnel, which they termed as insulting and degrading to working women.

Ms Uttam Padmavathi said the incident was an attack on the dignity of women in the public sector. Elected representatives should be held accountable for their behavior towards women in office, regardless of political affiliation.
