Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of Greater Hyderabad called an increase in metro fare, which entered into force on Saturday, as a “economic burden” to the poor and commuting middle class, and demanded the government to immediately get out east by absorbing in Hydero Rail Ltd.
In an open letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revant Reddy on Saturday 11 MLA, who are now with the party (three more have passed loyalty to the ruling congress), against participation in the tariff, argued that it would be another burden for daily commuting students, employees and daily cars relying on available and reliable public transport. They criticized the Congress Government policy and said rising prices of fuel and basic commodities have already extended household budgets. The fare metro hike would continue to burden the fighting families.
Referring to the experience of Karnataka, the MLA noted that the Congress Government also introduced a steep 100% hike in the metro tariffs, and reportedly resulted in 13% of the Ridership slide. Under public pressure, the main Minister of Karnataka was forced to intervene and reverse the decision, emphasized.
The letter also attracted the attention of the main minister to the deteriorating operation and pollution if the commutors moved to road transport for unavailable fares. He claims that this is not just a financial problem, but about sustainable urban mobility.
They warned the government that it would face severe resistance from people if they could not return to the fare trip.
‘Hydraa problem’
