Tension prevailed at Secunderabad railway station on Saturday (January 17) morning after the Hyderabad police detained several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders and workers who had gathered for a rally.
According to police sources, 322 people were detained as of Saturday 5:00 p.m. Among those taken into custody were Sanathnagar MLA and former minister T. Srinivas Yadav along with Gurram Pavan Kumar, who the police said had sought permission for the rally. Police said they were examining CCTV footage from the area to identify others who had gathered without permission and that cases would be booked accordingly.
The detention came shortly after police denied permission for a BRS-Sadhana Samithi rally at Secunderabad railway station, which was planned to support the party’s demand for a separate municipal corporation for Secunderabad. A heavy police presence has been deployed in and around the station to avoid any inconvenience.
