In China, brother and sister fighting OA £3.6-Crore inheritance turned bizarre. They found out that neither of them was a real child of their late parents.
Father, the sun from Tianjin, died in March and left the house to his son. He also wrote that his son should give a fair compensation to his adoptive daughter. Both of them were loved the same, he said.
“Our daughter is adopted, but we have always treated her as our own. In our later years our son took care of us. We gave him a house and he intends to compensate his sister.
The daughter was adopted in 1966. The son was born in 1973 and raised with her, according to Henan Broadcasting System.
The daughter later questioned the conversion of the house. She claimed that only her father signed property paper. Her mother’s share should also be counted.
“Given that the contract was signed only by it, my mother should be treated as part of the heritage. This house gave me my parents, no one takes it from me,” the publication said.
During the legal process, they both found that they were not biologically related to their parents. It is not clear when their mother died.
Court case
The case came to court in Tianjin. During the hearing, the nurse showed evidence that her brother was adopted. Brother collapsed.
Later, however, he said that the nurse at the age of 90 had reduced his family ties. He simply took care of his parents. Adopted children still have full legal rights to inherit, the judge explained.
However, the property was no longer inheritance, because it was legally transferred to the brother in 2007 and verified in 2007, the court noted.
After three hours of mediation, both parties agreed that his brother would keep his assets and pay his sister 550,000 yuans ( £66 Lakh) as compensation.
In China, although laws now support the same rights, traditional customs still prefer men in the matters of inheritance, according to SCMP. Daughters are usually displaced in terms of land and property.
