A serious warning about the worsening human rights crisis in Baluchistan it was formally registered in the UK Parliament under the leadership of Labor MP John McDonnell. The veteran politician has publicly expressed deep concern over reports of enforced disappearances of Baloch women and the alleged use of drone strikes by Pakistani forces in the region.
McDonnell used established parliamentary procedure to ensure an official government response, tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) and three written questions, forcing ministers to respond within three days.
EDM registers deep alarm at specific recent atrocities, including the October 5, 2025, drone strike in Zehri, Khuzdar district, which reportedly killed six civilians, including four children. It also draws attention to the case of Mahjabeen Baloch, a disabled student missing since May 29, and the abduction of teenager Nasreena Baloch on November 22. The motion specifically condemns the detention of five Baloch women on November 17, describing the act as a form of collective punishment.
Labor MPs push for UK diplomatic action
The parliamentary push aims to force the UK government to step up its diplomatic outreach and remind ministers of their previous commitment to address human rights abuses in Balochistan directly with Islamabad.
In his questions, McDonnell specifically demands accountability from two government departments. He asked the British Foreign Secretary whether there had been recent discussions with Pakistani officials about the abuse and asked the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry to assess the risk of UK-supplied equipment being involved in drone operations. The MP also requests confirmation of whether any export licenses have been approved for military or dual-use goods potentially related to these activities.
This targeted crackdown is the result of a persistent campaign by the Baloch National Movement (BNM) to raise awareness among British lawmakers. BNM confirms that a total of six MPs – John McDonnell, Sam Carling, Sojan Joseph, Mike Martin, Jim Shannon and Kate Osamor – have now formally challenged the Government on human rights in Pakistan.
