Bret Hart reignited one of professional wrestling’s most controversial storylines by claiming that Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon were involved in a sexual relationship in the late 1990s. Nearly three decades after the infamous Montreal Screwjob, Hart once again pulled back the curtain on the deeply personal dynamics that shaped the power structure in the WWF and ultimately led to his own downfall in the company.
During a recent appearance at the Johnny I Pro Show in Montreal, Hart revisited his longstanding feud with Michaels and his distrust of McMahon. This time, however, he went further than ever, suggesting that his rivalry with Michaels was not just professional, but rooted in an alleged romantic and sexual relationship between Michaels and the WWF Chairman.
“I think Shawn and Vince slept together. I’m just telling you, I think I’m very close to the truth here. Shawn and Vince were lovers. I’m dead honest. When I look back, it’s like I was caught between two lovers, I got in a shaft and screwed up, and Shawn was so envious and jealous of my position that he ended up sleeping with Vince.”
“I’d tell Shawn if he was here. I’d actually want Shawn to calm down and say, ‘Look, we were lovers.’ Because I’m sure they were.”
Hart went on to suggest that Michaels’ growing backstage power was tied to this alleged relationship, and claimed that McMahon’s unwavering support for him was more personal than professional. According to Hart, what stood out most during this period was the emotional tone in McMahon’s reactions, which he felt went beyond the usual dynamic between a promoter and his top star.
While Hart’s comments shocked many, rumors surrounding Michaels and McMahon have existed in wrestling circles for years, often dismissed as jokes or exaggerated locker room talk. However, following the recent allegations and legal issues surrounding McMahon, the old stories have resurfaced and are now being viewed through a different lens.
So far, neither Shawn Michaels nor Vince McMahon have responded to Hart’s claims. Still, his statements added another explosive layer to one of wrestling’s most complicated and controversial chapters.
