A child born in Brazil attracted attention online after his photograph, which held a contraceptive coil, became a viral. The device was originally supposed to prevent his mother from getting pregnant.
Mother used IUD for two years
The boy, named Matheus Gabriel, was born in the Sagrado Coração de Jesus hospital in Neropolis, Goias. His mother, Queida Arauujo de Oliveira, used intrauterine devices (IUD), also known as a copper coil, for almost two years. The device is considered to be more than 99 % effective in preventing pregnancy.
IUD is a small T -shaped device inside the womb to prevent conception. It releases copper, creates an enemy environment for sperm and can remain effective for five to ten years depending on the type.
Pregnancy continued despite IUD
Queidy found that she was pregnant during routine control. Doctors have explained that the removal of the coil can endanger pregnancy, so they remained in place. Its pregnancy was not without challenges because it experienced bleeding and partial separation of the facility. Yet Matheus was safely delivered.
The child holds the “trophy of victory”
After birth, Dr. Natalia Rodrigues noticed Iud and placed it in the newborn. The photo taken in the van shows that Matheus closes the device as if it were a small trophy.
Rodrigues shared images on Instagram with the headline: “Holding my trophy Victory: Iud, who couldn’t handle me!”
Mother and child are reported as healthy and safe.
