Mahindra Thar owners have developed a bad reputation over the past few years, largely due to their reckless off-road antics and irresponsible driving.
Proving a common notion among Thar owners, a driver in Nagaland decided to maneuver his Mahindra SUV onto the tracks of the Dimapur railway station. The driver, said to be 65, can be seen stuck on the tracks while attempting the dangerous off-road stunt.
A video of the incident is going viral on social media, with netizens criticizing the irresponsible behavior of the Nagaland driver and Thar owners in general.
A viral video showed the Thar immobilized on rails with its rear wheels spinning, producing sparks.
Here’s how netizens reacted:
Social media users were disappointed but not surprised by the reckless behavior of the Thar owner. A few users even labeled recklessness as typical “Thar behavior” and also derided them as “Tharrorist” – closely related to terrorist.
“This ‘THAR’ behavior is spreading fast, with many Thar owners acting as if owning such a vehicle gives them the freedom to drive anywhere and ignore rules and safety, putting their lives and the lives of others at risk,” said one netizen.
“The one, the one… Thar,” said another.
One user said, “Thar are the road killers of India…only criminals buy this vehicle to kill people on the road…car manufacturers are out of their minds.”
One user said “there’s never a dull day with thar buddhi”, while another claimed “Thar is not a car, but a human state of mind”.
“Mahindra is giving IQ to its owners at a discount,” quipped the user.
An angry netizen said: “Ban Thar! Filthy rich scoundrels think they own roads, railway platforms, all places and drive irresponsibly, rashly as they please.” “More Thar incidents, accidents that were regularly driven by insensitive idiots,” they added.
“The moment a person owns a Thar, they lose their sanity,” another user exclaimed.
Has the Thar driver been arrested?
According to local news reports quoting Dimapur police, railway and police personnel rushed to the spot to ensure the safe removal of the driver from the tracks without causing any damage to railway property or the general public.
Police said the act was a result of gross negligence and violation of traffic and railway safety norms. They also said the driver, who was allegedly drunk, was arrested. The car was also taken into custody.
