
Organs harvested from a brain-dead road accident victim by a team of doctors at Apollo Specialty Hospitals in Tiruchi helped save lives this week.
According to a hospital report, a 45-year-old woman from Kannivadi village in Dharapuram taluk of Tiruppur district was injured in a road accident on January 14. She was first given emergency treatment at Apollo Hospital in Karur and subsequently referred to the Tiruchi facility where she was admitted under the strict supervision of a specialized medical team and given intensive care.
Despite treatment, doctors declared her brain dead after a thorough medical examination and critical observation. Surviving family members agreed to donate female organs.
Through a series of coordinated surgeries, vital organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys and lungs were retrieved. Liver and kidney were transplanted to patients undergoing treatment at Apollo Specialty Hospitals in Tiruchi.
The remaining organs were allocated to patients on the waiting list in accordance with the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu Transplant Authority (TRANSTAN), the statement said.
The remains of the organ donor were laid to rest with full honors. The final rites were performed in the presence of officials representing Tiruppur District Collector, including Dharapuram Revenue Divisional Officer and Tahsildar Officer, along with Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Tiruchi Unit Head and Associate Vice President V. Jayaraman and senior police officials.
