
The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited-Kochi (BPCL-KR) is asked to actively consider the demand of Ayyankuzhi, located near the Ambbalamugal campus to get its land because of it is unfit for dwelling.
This was one of the main points discussed during the main secretary meeting, which took place here a few days ago to consider the long -term demand of the population for their land. More than 30 families remain on the 9.4 acre sandwiches between the two main units of the public sector-Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited (HOCL) and BPCL-KR-NA AYYANKUZHI.
Families were temporarily moved to a cottage in Chottanikkara after about 200 meters of 220 kv of KSEB cables, laid in an underground ditch inside the company campus, on July 8, 2025, they lit a significant discomfort to the inhabitants. Since then, families have refused to return to their homes if the decision on their request after land is taken.
“Over the past two years, several studies and reports have confirmed the accusation of the population that the area is incapable of dwelling as a result. The main secretary reminded BPCL-KR bodies that the land was obtained in places like Ahmedabad and Jharkand after pollution, and urgently consider In Kerala, ”said PV Sreenijin, MLA, who took part in the meeting.
However, the BPCL-KR authorities have repeated their reservations to obtain additional land and claimed that it would not comply with their project. The company was constantly claiming that it did not share the border with the residential area. It also quoted the right to a fair compensation and transparency in obtaining a land acquisition Act, rehabilitation and relocation, which orders that the acquired land must be used exclusively for the intended purpose.
Saji Kumar, a conflection of Ayyyankuzhi Janakeey Samiti, said there was no doubt that the inhabitants were returning to their homes. “Instead, the company can set a time frame for three to six months for permanent acquisition of our land and at the same time provide us with rent for this period. Even the last report of the Council for Control Council, prepared after the incident, reaffirmed that our neighborhood is inappropriate for housing,” he added.
However, it is emphasized that residents holding far from the affected neighborhood can have an adverse impact and water after urgency to find a solution.
